What I write about

Hi, I’m Joyce and welcome to my parenting blog!

Over the years, there has been a lot of research on how to raise and educate children to be independent and become the best person they can be.

However, it is very easy to get lost in all the theories and recommendations made by experts. In the busy modern life, time is limited and it is hard for mothers to juggle the demands of work, life and marriage. We are constantly facing dilemmas and choices about what to prioritise for our children, what to let go, how much of a Tiger Mum or a Free Range Mum we want to be.

This blog shares parenting ideas from an assimilation of theories and practice that I have learnt as an educator and parent. The key questions I have are:

  • how do I raise children to be values-driven, independent, and motivated to reach their fullest potential?
  • What are the most important values, knowledge and skills to teach them so that they fish for themselves instead of depending on me to tell them what to do?
  • What are the most effective strategies and tools to use?
  • What are the easiest ways to incorporate these strategies and tools in daily life that suit the different personalities and contexts of parents?

Teaching children to become successful and live purposeful lives is my passion both as an educator and parent. My approach to parenting has been deeply influenced by studies on positive parenting, child development and education theories as well as my Christian faith. Trial and error has also helped me form my own thesis about why certain methods work for some children and not others. In my blog, the focus is on implementing parenting strategies in practical ways. The product recommendations I make are things I love and would use myself.
